Housing Coordinator

DEPARTMENT:   Independent Living                                                   

REPORTS TO:  IL Program Manager

STATUS:  Full Time/40 hour/week; non-exempt/hourly

Position summary:

IL Housing Coordinator will understand and model Independent Living Philosophy, oversee operation of the Supported Housing Program. Coordinate the program to meet the needs of consumers to include veterans, and the community. Ensures confidentiality of consumers and consumer records.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • The capacity to treat individuals in a respectful and dignified manner which supports and empowers their capacity for independence.
  • The ability to arrange transportation and travel independently including the ability to travel freely throughout El Paso County to perform housing inspections and occasional travel for Housing conferences and trainings.
  • Ability to travel within Colorado Springs and surrounding counties to meet with individuals, including accessing consumer homes, attend meetings, and present information.
  • Proficient with computer, including, Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of housing accessibility standards.

Essential Functions/Areas of Accountability:

  1. Ensure the philosophy, mission and goals of the Independent living program are maintained
  2. Have a working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and Fair Housing
  3. Manage housing voucher active caseload.
  4. Determine housing voucher eligibility, Re-certifying vouchers on a yearly basis.
  5. Responsible for Bi annual, and and annual HQS Housing inspections and recertifications.
  6. Provide appropriate paperwork and billing to DOH as required by timelines in order to receive payment
  7. Responsible for completing all internal paperwork and documentation, and entering services into the Homeless Management Information System, and ELITE sytem to meet State regulatory requirements in a timely manner.
  8. Work with Outreach and Veteran in Charge program in outlying areas to educate and facilitate meetings with staff and consumers for optimal goal development.
  9. Develop and maintain relationships with apartment managers, and update data base as needed. Collaborate with the VA system/Case Managers.
  10. Provide advocacy in the community for affordable and accessible housing.
  11. Attendance at weekly staff meeting, engage in and explore opportunities for training related to the position, and participate in Continum of Care meetings.
  12. Maintain confidentiality as outlined in the employee handbook and work within the confines of HIPPA regulations.
  13. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
  14. Accept responsibility for personal and professional development and engage in and explore opportunities for position related training.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous experience including personal experience with a disability as well as knowledge related to the Independent Living Movement
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent Communication Skills, Including Public Speaking
  • Ability to write routine reports, assessments and related correspondence
  • The capacity to empower individuals with disabilities to advocate for themselves

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Office environment requiring ongoing computer use and extended amount of time sitting or standing.
  • Ability to travel within Colorado Springs and surrounding counties to meet with individuals, including accessing consumer homes, attend meetings, and present information.
