For 2019, the theme of our annual ADA celebration luncheon is “ADA: Advancing Disability-Friendly Health Care”. This is a theme that is understood throughout the people with disabilities community, yet unknown by most people who aren’t themselves living with a disability. This event will entertain and educate on the challenges related to accessing healthcare for people with disabilities. We’re excited to have a disability-specific speaker with experience in this area. So please join us this year to celebrate the Americans with Disabilities Act, enjoy the company of your friends at The Independence Center, and learn about an issue that is close to our hearts.

Health Care Consumer Skills Workshop
Interested in building on your health care consumer skills?
Join us immediately following the ADA Celebration Luncheon, across the hall in the Foothills conference room, for an informative workshop designed to strengthen your self-advocacy skills as they relate to receiving the health care you deserve. The workshop will begin at approx. 1:00pm and end at 4:00pm.
Topics Include:
- Understanding and asking for accommodations
- Understanding rights and responsibilities
- Strengthening communication and question-asking skills
- Planning for any disability-specific assistance
- Understanding and remembering information
- Getting test results
- Maintaining records
- Interactive exercises focused on working to get accommodations in place
